Ensley Bottoms
Shelby Co. TN
A quick trip to the Western Kingbird nest at Ensley revealed a Kestrel
sitting on top of the tower and no adult Western Kingbirds in the area. I did
not
have long to tarry and hopefully the adults were just staying away from the
nest but I saw no sign of either parent during a 15 minute vigil. I would
expect the adults would be on the Kestrel like white on rice but nada........
I had 3 Least Sandpipers but did not look in all the nooks and crannies. I
also had a flight of 50+ White Pelicans out over the river. On Sunday at
Tiptonville Landing in Lake Co. I had 2 White Pelicans and at Chickasaw NWR I
had
a feeding flock of 196.
Again, all the normally wet areas up and down the river are dry even herons
and egrets are having a hard time finding someplace to wet their feet.
Shorebirds will have a tough time if we don't get a lot of rain soon but that
does
not seem likely. A lot of the areas at the Ensley Pits are being reworked by
big equipment so most of it is also dry.
Good Birding!!!
