I traveled to Reelfoot Lake, in Lake County, with hopes of
seeing the Vermillion Flycatcher. This colorful little guy is
a real showoff and easily found. I wish all the birds I chase
were as cooperative.
Next I visited Lauderdale Waterfowl Refuge, located on Hi-way
210 in Lauderdale County, to see what was there. Lots of ducks,
two to three thousand, of seven species that I could ID. Mallards
and Ring Necks are the most common.
My final stop was the Duck River Unit of Tn. NWR in Humphreys
County. The sun was setting just as I arrived, so I didn't have
much time to look. There is a staggering amount of waterfowl
here, much more than I've ever seen here before. I'll come back
later this week for a better look.
