Had a few birds of note yesterday (January 16, 2006):
On Hwy. 152 in Crockett County (in the Nance community) I had 2 adult Bald
Eagles sitting up over a small farm pond right in front of a house beside the
highway! Of course I didn't have my camera!
A nice Krider's Red-tailed Hawk was seen at Horns Bluff Refuge in Crockett
County. Not much else of note here but one Fox Sparrow.
In a flooded field on Old Mound Rd. in Crockett County I had over 200 Northern
Pintails with a few Mallards and Gadwall. Also in the field was one Lesser
Yellowlegs feeding with some Killdeer.
I had one female Purple Finch at my feeders in the Mt. Orange community outside
of Trenton in Gibson County when I was at home for lunch yesterday.
I forgot to post last Thursday, January 12 I had 2 Ross's Geese in a corn
stubble field along Hwy. 45W north of Kenton in Obion County. Also had a few
Lapland Longspurs with Horned Larks on Stavely Rd. east of Ridgely in Obion
County that same day.
As I noted earlier I was unsuccessful in my attempt for the Golden-crowned
Sparrow in Covington but the bird was seen yesterday morning.
Good birding,
Mark Greene
