[TN-Bird] West TN ramblings

Obion County

Crockett County

I was working in Union City in Obion County yesterday
and, like Jeff Wilson farther south in Haywood County,
I also had some big flocks of Snow Geese with Ross's
Geese sprinkled in flying over and headed north. I
counted over 3000 geese in 2 separate flocks come over
and had at least 8 Ross's Geese in the flocks. This
was at around 1 pm.

I had 2 Ring-billed Gulls sitting in the parking lot
of Lowe's in Union City on top of a light pole and
then I drove 5 miles down Hwy. 51 towards Troy and had
3000 Ring-billed Gulls sitting in some stubble fields.

Today in Crockett County I had an adult Bald Eagle fly
over me at the jct. of Hwy. 221 & Bailey Road east of
Alamo. I also had a gorgeous adult dark-morph Harlan's
Red-tailed Hawk on Chestnut Bluff-Maury City Road in
western Crockett County. I've seen this bird a few
times in the last few weeks and according to Glenn
Stanley (former USFWS refuge manager), who lives in
the area, this is the 5th winter that this bird has
returned to the same area!

Good birding,

Mark Greene
