[TN-Bird] Waterfowl, etc. at Austin Springs, March 29

Gilbert Derouen, Brookie and Jean Potter and Bryan Stevens birded Tuesday,
March 29, from 5-6 p.m. at Austin Springs at Boone Lake in Washington County,
which turned out to be a great time for observing waterfowl and a few
shorebirds.
First up, however, we had three Vesper Sparrows. Jean and Bryan even managed
looks at the sparrows in a spotting scope.

Waterfowl present included: Northern Shoveler (2), American Wigeon (4),
Ring-necked Ducks (3), Green-winged Teal (2), Bufflehead (1), Blue-winged Teal
(6),
Mallard (2), Wood Duck (4), Canada Geese (40+) and Pied-billed Grebe (1).

Shorebirds included Lesser Yellowlegs (1), Spotted Sandpiper (1), Wilson's
Snipe (13) and Killdeer (8).

Other birds of interest included Northern Rough-winged and Tree Swallows,
Great Blue Heron, Belted Kingfisher, Red-winged Blackbird and Eastern
Meadowlark.

On the way to Austin Springs through the town of Watauga, Brookie, Jean and
Bryan observed a Cooper's Hawk as well as 3 Blue-winged Teal at St. John's
Pond.
