I did a migrating waterbird survey from the Boathouse Restaurant on
Amnicola Highway in Chattanooga to Wolftever Bridge on Highway 58
yesterday (11/17). Several rafts of migrating ducks were observed as
well as some loons and grebes. Highlights included:
- 2 ROSS GEESE on Amnicola Lake along Amnicola Highway. First
record for this location and probably the earliest record of the species
in Hamilton County. (~ 12 records for the county). Dan Jacobson
observed the two Ross fly south from the lake near dusk.
11 species of ducks:
- 1 Red-breasted Merganser
- 6 Redhead
-110 Lesser Scaup
- 26 Bufflehead
-10 Ring-necked
- 3 Ruddy
- 20 Gadwall
- 8 Hooded Merganser
-10 Northern Shoveler
-12 Green-winged Teal
- 10 Mallard
-26 Common Loon
-6 Horned Grebe
-1 Double-crested Cormorant
-1 adult Bald Eagle
-21 Bonaparte's Gull
- 1 immature Herring Gull
- 36 Ring-billed Gull
- 3 Pine Siskin at Booker T Washington State Park
I forgot to include a Blue-headed Vireo on the fieldtrip list for the
TOS state meeting. It was seen at the Honors Golf Course on November 8.
That makes 78 species for the fieldtrips.
