A good find for Jeff Co., Don. In reply to Don's notes on Warbling Vireo in Jefferson Co., A pair nested at Mossy Creek WMA in Jefferson City, within sight of Cherokee Dam (2-3 miles) last year. Boyd Sharp told me about 10 years ago to look for them along the Holston River below the dam. Despite much looking since then, the ones at Mossy Creek last year were the first I had found on this side of the county. They are much more common on Douglas Lake. Several nest around Rankin Bottoms. I've also found them on the Jefferson Co. side of the lake near White Pine. On an off-topic note, Amber and I weathered Tropical Storm Arlene in Destin, Florida. Not much of a blow. A little rain, not much wind but some rough surf and waves lapping at the back of the condo. 8-10 1st- and 2nd-year Northern Gannets gave a little excitement at first thinking they might be Boobies but little else in the storm-blown bird area. Not even a Frigatebird or Sooty Tern. Least Terns are abundant here, foresaking the crowded beaches and nesting on seemingly every flat- roofed building and shopping center in town. We had a couple families of Snowy Plovers across the Destin Bridge on Eglin Air Force Base property today. Also a few Southern Beach Tiger Beetles. Sandwich, Gull- billed, Royal, Capian Terns are around in good numbers as well. We've spotted at least two pair of Gray Kingbirds hanging around town. Eurasian Collared-Doves might just out-number starlings.
