WSMV Tower
Knob Hill
Nashville-Davidson Co, TN
Monday 25 September 2006
Last night's weather was clear for the first time in several days in Nashville.
The passage of a cold front brought high pressure and winds from the north and
west. These conditions were probably conducive to a significant movement of
transients last night as evidenced by the number of tower casualties I
collected at the WSMV Tower this morning.
Here's a breakdown of the casualties:
7 Black-and-white Warblers
6 Tennessee Warblers
5 Red-eyed Vireos
2 Magnolia Warblers
2 Ovenbirds
2 Palm Warblers (one was still alive and quite active despite an injured wing)
2 American Redstarts
1 Bay-breasted Warbler
1 Blackburnian Warbler
28 total birds 9 species
For those of you not familiar with the Tower Project, for well over 40 years
the WSMV Television Tower site has been monitored every day during fall
migration generally from Labor Day to Halloween for tower bird kills. The
project is currently overseen by Sandy Bivens of Warner Parks of the
Metropolitan Board of Parks and Recreation of Nashville and Davidson County.
