April 23, 2009 Ensley Bottoms Shelby Co. TN A quick run through at the "Pits" found fewer shorebird numbers but 16 species. Two Uplands were flushed from the roadside and a female Wilson's Phalarope was spinning in one puddle. Lots of construction causing quite a bit of fragmented habitat and the large pits have not bloomed yet. Present were: Killdeer, 3 Semipalmated Plovers, Black-necked Stilts, Spotted Sandpipers, numerous Solitary Sandpipers, Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs, 2 UPLAND SANDPIPERS, Least Sandpipers, Pectoral Sandpipers, 3 Dunlin, Stilt Sandpipers in various stages of molt, 1 Short-billed Dowitcher, only 3 Long-billed, Wilson's Snipe, 1 female WILSON'S PHALAROPE. Good Birding !!! Jeff R.
