[TN-Bird] Tundra Swan still in Mosheim

The immature Tundra Swan reported by Don Miller near Mosheim in Greene 
County was still at its pond Saturday afternoon.
Wildlife photographer Carole Franklin and I easily found the pond by 
taking Blue Springs Road (Old 11E) from U.S. Highway 11E until we saw 
Black Road coming in from the right. The pond was immediately to the 
left and below and we parked in a wide driveway to the right and carried 
the scope down to the fence. There is a white barnyard fowl in the pond 
with the swan, which is easily told, even when asleep, by its long, gray 
neck.
Also in the pond were a pair of Hooded Mergansers, about a half dozen 
Gadwalls and 2-4 Mallards.
A gentleman wandered down from his trailer and asked what we were 
looking for, and was disappointed when we told him. "I thought somebody 
drowned," he said, looking at the scope and Carole's camera. I offered 
to let him look at the swan through my scope, but he was only interested 
if we had a floater and returned to his trailer.
These birds are best viewed during morning hours and we were there in 
mid-afternoon. Carole intends to return with the big lens during morning 
hours, and will hopefully post a shot on her web site if she gets 
something. She has been lurking on tn-bird for a week or so and 
hopefully with soon introduce herself to you and share some of the work 
from her web site. She has perhaps the pentultimate shot of a male 
Eastern Bluebird perched on red sumac berries, plus some shots of the 
bears and their cubs that visit her home in the South Central  community 
next to the bear preserve.

We drove western Greene county for the rest of a nice, sunny Saturday 
around Mohawk and Midway and observed two Northern Harriers, a 
female/immature bird and a nice male.
