[TN-Bird] The TOTB Award to Jan Shaw

Oct. 27, 2003

I've decided to bestow this award and all the honors and recognition that go 
with it, to Jan Shaw for not going with "conventional wisdom" and questioning 
the ID and going with her impressions on this wonderful bird. The TOTB 
(Thinking Outside The Box) Award pays off in many ways but the most rewarding 
aspect 
is the sharing. It is seldom in life that we can give so much real joy to so 
many.

The smiles, grins and varying gestures that spread through the 14 people 
there Sunday afternoon when the bird made a very showy appearance was one of 
those 
birding moments that will be remembered and relived by all that stood under 
gray skies on watch. I would bet that everyone in that group will always be 
tied by that experience. It happens time and time again in your birding life 
when 
the bird or birds and the people you shared the moment with are etched into 
your memory bank to be recalled when you meet again. Remember the 
day.................!

Thanks again to Jan for sharing and "the check is in the mail.";o)
