Shelby Co. TN

The unsettled weather was enough to send me down late yesterday afternoon.
The birds were using new areas as the water is fast disappearing.
Black-bellied Whistling ducks had concentrated at TVA Lake, 28 birds sat with
the
White Pelican which has a damaged wing. There were 6 more Whistlers that
were scattered around at potential nest areas.

I found only about 250 shorebirds of 13 species, with a few nice additions
in the mix; Semipalmated Plover, Killdeer, Black-necked Stilts ( over 100
counted strewn all over the area), 8 Spotted Sandpipers ( one pair of
females harassing a male), 1 Lesser Yellowlegs, an adult male RUDDY TURNSTONE,
Semipalmated, Least, White-rumped, and a single BAIRD'S Sandpiper, 2
Pectoral, Dunlin, and 1- Stilt Sandpiper.

Shrikes are feeding young in 3 nests with some getting so large they are
almost falling out of one nest.

Box turtles were on the move last Friday through Sunday, I removed 7 from
the roadways, both Eastern and 3 Toed, 4 males / 3 females, from Memphis to
Reelfoot. I've not seen any since, how do they all know today is moving
day, love rules! It is amazing to me how many "red necks" will go out of
their way to try to make them permanent speed bumps.
Good Birding!!

What is this feathered thing that lifts my heart to the heavens.
