Douglas Lake, Jefferson county, 3-4 PM
Lake elevation: 958.1
I drove through Baneberry, parked at the end of McCorkle Rd., and
walked about a mile south along the shoreline. Several hundred ducks
lined the opposite shore of the cove, about 500 yards away. A light
rain began just after I set up the scope, than gradually became a
downpour. I had to pack it up without a thorough survey and returned
to the car. I managed to pick out the following among the mallards:
Am. wigeon (4)
Am. Black duck (8)
N. shoveler (35)
N. pintail (8)
Green-winged teal (75)
Ring-necked duck (10)
Scaup spp. (5)
Hooded merganser (2)
Red-br. merganser (24).
also:
Great blue heron (32)
Bald eagle (2 imm.)
Ring-billed gull (30)
