[TN-Bird] TVA Land Use Policy Comment Period Extended

At the request of some politicians, TVA has extended the public comment
period on the draft "Policy Governing the Tennessee Valley Authority's
Retention, Disposal and Planning of Interests in Real Property" through
November 28.  The original comment period on the draft policy closed in
early November.
 

This issue is very important to Tennessee birders because it will help to
determine whether and how public lands on TVA reservoirs (those on the
Tennessee River and its tributaries) will be available for residential,
commercial, and industrial development.

 

The draft land use policy issued by the TVA board for public review is

<http://www.tva.gov/river/landandshore/land_policy.htm> .  It would halt
residential and some commercial development of these important public lands,
and greatly restrict industrial development on them.  At the recommendation
of the TOS Conservation Policy Committee, the TOS Board of Directors
unanimously approved a strong endorsement of this draft policy.  A copy of

If you have not already sent your comments to TVA on this draft policy, I
urge you to do so.  As stated on the TVA web site, TVA is only accepting
