[TN-Bird] TOS Wheeler trip results

Wheeler Nat. Wildlife refuge , Wheeler and Wilson dams AL , Jan. 23, 24 & 25
 2009

28 people from Tennessee Ornithological Society visited north Alabama for
birding over the weekend. GREAT BIG THANK YOUs to Damien Simbeck for leading
across N AL & to Dwight Cooley for deluxe tour of the refuge.

While not many rarities were found, with the exception of HARRIS's SPARROW,
found by Ron Hoff and DollyAnn Myers, we managed to list a total of 98 species
 (see list below). Highlights:
Reported 3,500 Sandhill Cranes on the refuge with aprox. 2,500 out from
viewing area, always an impressive sight and sound; a couple hundred Am. White
Pelicans near Wheeler dam; a large (200+) flock of Am Pipits; large flock of
Snow Geese, and a Krider's Red-tailed Hawk on the refuge.
Was good to visit with folks and share some memorable birding experiences.
