I just wanted to give everybody a chance to view ahead of time the field
trips that are scheduled for this weekend at the TOS Spring Meeting in
Nashville. You can still register Friday night or Saturday morning at the
Baymont Inn and Suites at 111 Penn Warren Dr. in Brentwood. Lots of birds
have
been seen here this past week, so we're expecting good results and a fun
time for all. Please come join us.
Radnor Lake - Saturday - led by Chris Sloan - A 2 1/2 mile wooded trail
that's great for many migrants including warblers, vireos, grosbeaks,
orioles, and tanagers, and holds a possibility for Connecticut and Mourning
Warblers.
Radnor Lake - Sunday - led by Jan Shaw
Shelby Park and Bottoms - Saturday - led by Phillip Casteel - Richard
Connors will lead the group from the hotel to the park - Open bottomlands and
tree-lines along the Cumberland River good for many migrants and breeding
Chat, Common Yellowthroat, Prairie Warbler, Warbling Vireo, Willow
Flycatcher, and a possibility for Connecticut and Mourning Warblers.
Shelby Park and Bottoms - Sunday - led by Mary Zimmerman - Amy Potter will
lead the group from the hotel to the park.
Beaman Park - Saturday - led by Kevin Bowden - A wooded, hilly trail along
a beautiful creek great for breeding Worm-eating Warbler, Kentucky
Warbler, Louisiana Waterthrush, Northern Parula, Yellow-throated Warbler,
Ovenbird, Acadian Flycatcher, and Scarlet Tanager.
Beaman Park and Bells Bend Park - Sunday - led by Chris Sloan - Bells Bend
Park has grassy trails through open fields and tree-lines along the
Cumberland River good for Henslow's Sparrow, Grasshopper Sparrow, Blue
Grosbeak,
Chat, Blue-winged Warbler, Common Yellowthroat, and Orchard Oriole. Both
parks are northwest of downtown and near each other.
Bells Bend Park - Saturday - led by Amy Potter and Linn Ann Welch - see
above description.
Narrows of the Harpeth - Sunday - led by Richard Connors - A beautiful
area in Cheatham County along the Harpeth River. A more strenuous trail leads
up to a bluff with a wonderful view and a chance to look down on migrants.
Good for Prothonotary Warbler, American Redstart, Northern Parula,
Louisiana Waterthrush, Yellow-throated Warbler, and Red-headed Woodpecker.
For those that find themselves with spare time over the weekend, Ellington
Agricultural Center is right across the street from Crievewood United
Methodist Church, where the committee meetings, director's meeting, and
banquet
will take place. Ellington has trails and can be a very birdy place.
We hope to see you here.
Jan Shaw, field trip coordinator
