TN birders, John Henderson and I got out this am to check on the two reports of swallow-tailed kite in Sequatchie and Rhea counties. Arrived at the spot where Clyde Blum first alerted us to it's presence, and one was flying on the left side of Kelly Cross Road about 0.5 mi from East Valley Road. It was 10:10 am ET. Several black vultures were up in the area. We went straight from there to the Washington Ferry Bridge on Hwy 30 between Rhea and Meigs counties, but not sign of the bird, which must have been a different bird. Did have turkey vultures, red-tailed hawk, and a Cooper's hawk soaring. We searched appropriate fields in the area on both sides of the bridge without success. Does anyone remember if we have ever had 2 STKi before simultaneously in different sites in the state, as I do not?
