TN birders, Had the redpoll yesterday at 10:13 am Central time. First seen in the wisteria bush, it shortly came to the tube feeder at the back of the carport. Good looking female. Thanks Bill for sharing this nice bird, and keeping the listserv updated on the latest. Proceeded to Shelby Farms due to Jeff's kind update on Cackling Geese. Took a while, as the geese were scattered in numerous locations. Finally found 5 in the pond at the T intersection of Farm Road. Also had 1 Ross's and 6 Greater white-fronted, all at different locations. Number of waterfowl did not approach what Jeff reported earlier, but I did not cover all the area. The day was a beautiful day to be outside. Only tallied 54 species, but two new state birds made the day quite sweet. Also, except for Bradley and Hamilton counties. tallied at least one new species in all the other counties traversed(14), mostly drive bys. Took the leusurely way back home(highway 72 through north MS and AL), getting 19 species to start the year MS list and a few new ones for the AL year list. Also, the 65 degree weather was a drastic change from the cold of Kabul, Afghanistan.
