Afternoon listers... On this cloudy, chilly 44 degree afternoon Steve and I decided to make the rounds around Clarksville and see what early migrants might have arrived or what there was to see. Our first stop was the CLARKSVILLE MARINA. There we found 13 LESSER SCAUP, 1 GREAT BLUE HERON, 1 BLACK VULTURE AND a total of 31 TREE SWALLOWS, N. ROUGH-WINGED AND CLIFF SWALLOWS. They were flying very low over the water, crisscrossing and moving so fast it was hard to count species individually so we opted for the total. Next stop was ROTARY PARK. There we encountered both TURKEY AND BLACK VULTURES, RED-SHOULDERED AND RED-TAILED HAWKS, RED-BELLIED, DOWNY AND HAIRY WOODPECKERS, AMERICAN CROWS, CAROLINA CHICKADEES, TUFTED TITMOUSE, CAROLINA WREN, WINTER WREN, GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLETS, AMERICAN ROBINS, NORTHERN CARDINALS, YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS AND A LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH. From there is was off to DUNBAR CAVE STATE PARK. The lake there was all but empty. Only 4 MALLARDS and the usual assortment of "mixed" domestic ducks. Overhead were TURKEY AND BLACK VULTURES. We also had a BARRED OWL, BLUE JAYS, CAROLINA CHICKADEES, GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLETS, TUFTED TITMOUSE, STARLING, COWBIRDS, 3 YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS AND 2 NORTHERN CARDINALS. We will attempt to get out to the same places over the next few weeks to report and record any new arrivals. Until then, as always, Happy Birding! <") ( \ / |` Cyndi and Steve Routledge Clarksville, Montgomery County, TN "When one tugs at a single thing in Nature, he finds it attached to the rest of the world." ~John Muir =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to SIGN YOUR MESSAGE with first and last name, CITY (TOWN) and state abbreviation.
