Thinking it was just a fluke I shrugged it off. Two days ago while walking
the park a new wood duck has arrived. This one an adult drake. Not only
was he with the other water fowl but when the passerbys came to feed the
locals
bread and such, the little drake hopped from the water and preceded to go
after the crumbs! At one point he was to the point of begging. Is it just a
strange occurence or is this something that will become a normal sight?
Katy & others,
Years ago, when I was in one of the state parks (which shall remain nameless
to protect the innocent and the guilty), a whole flock of wood ducks were
there and would come up to feed when people fed the Canada geese. Even after
"Do Not Feed" signs were put up, the geese AND the wood ducks would still come
to beg from everyone they saw. A few people would "sneak--feed" them
anyway, so the birds continued their activity. I guess that is what is called
"learned behavior."
