February 26, 2006, 9:30 - 11:30 AM
Clear, bright, 35 - 40 degrees F, N wind 10 - 25 mph
Virginia Rail, 3 - 4, north end
Sora, 1 note, 90% certain Sora rather than Virginia Rail imitating Sora
BLUE-HEADED VIREO, same location as January 8, same details,
changes in italics: "15 feet, time 30 seconds; obviously larger, longer and
slower than the kinglets; 2 conspicuous white wingbars each wing, very
conspicuous complete white eye-ring and white 'spectacles' bar; grey head,
greenish-gray back, white underneath, some yellow observed, beak seemed hooked.
A very sharp looking bird with lots of contrast... West of turn-around at end
of gravel road, across tall weeds... about 50 feet into pines on foot path."
Seen with Carolina Chickadee, Tufted Titmouse, 3 male and 2 female Pine
Warblers, and Yellow-rumped Warbler.
