Yesterday my mom and I stopped by Standifer Gap Marsh from 11:45 AM to 1:15 PM.
The first good birds we saw were 8 Blue-winged Teal that we flushed up from the
South (I think) side of the marsh. We also saw a lone female Northern Shoveler
and 2 Wood Ducks. I heard a nasal call and saw a probable FISH CROW fly over.
Young American Crows can sometimes sound similar, but I think it would be quite
early for that. I have had lots of experience with Fish Crows in multiple
states, and it sounded exactly like one. During a quick chat with Jacob Job, a
asked him if he had seen the bird, he said he hadn't. Within a few minutes
after he left, we heard the bird again, it seemed to be perched somewhere
across the marsh. We had multiple American Crows calling at the same time and
they sounded nothing alike.
