[TN-Bird] Spring Time in TN !

Feb. 18, 2004
Robco Lake and Mud Island
Shelby Co. TN

I checked out Robco Lake, my usual first of spring arrival point for Purple
Martins but no luck there. The lake is still low after the dam breach but there
is a nice collection of species present. A dozen White Pelicans ply their
trade along with, Mallard, Gadwall, Pintail, Shoveler, Lesser Scaup,
Ring-necked,
Canvasback, Lesser Scaup, Bufflehead, Ruddy, Red-breasted Merganser and
Hooded. Plenty of DC Cormorants are continually being monitored by the
Ring-billed
Gulls and 2 Herring Gulls. Coots, PB Grebe and domestic geese fill out the
list.

I stopped by the river which after a 10 day 19 foot rise has turned its head
down again. This past year has been a true roller coaster ride on the river.
The only bird I saw besides the Rock Pigeons was a male PURPLE MARTIN skimming
the river.

Good Birding!!!
