Ensley Bottoms
Shelby Co, TN
The other day, I had a strange acting male Spotted Sandpiper at the pits.
Today, I photographed that male and a female. The two were first see together
in
flight, looked like one chasing the other. The male could be seen later
feeding out in the open and then just disappeared while the female could be
seen
feeding for over an hour.
We'll have to keep an eye out for young...........
The Stilt Sandpiper and Lesser Yellowlegs both have bum wings but they are
staying out of trouble. Only 2 Least Sandpipers today. They will be greeting
returning shorebirds in less that two weeks;o)
Watched a nest of Black-necked Stilts hatching this afternoon. Dad was
ferrying egg shells away from the nest and flew right by me. I just followed
him
back to the nest where there were 3 fluffy youngsters stumbling around and one
wet willy, still too weak to hold its head up.
Got a quick photo of mom and dad Blue-winged Teal hustling their young back
into the dense brush. Two Mallard hens have raise brood of an even dozen each.
I've watched both broods since they hatched and neither have lost a chick in
over two weeks. My hats is off to them..............
Good Birding !!!
