[TN-Bird] Sparrow hawk/kestrel establishing territory??

God morning Birders,
When exiting the Aldi store on American Road just off Charlotte Pike in West
Nashville (Davidson Country) around 10 AM today, I heard the unmistaken call
of a sparrow hawk. I spied it flying up American Road after which it landed on
a utility pole at the edge of the street between West Meade Pools and an
automotive repair shop. It continued to call which immediately caught a
mockingbird's attention. The mockingbird flew up to the pole and perched
within five
feet of the kestrel where it began to harass him to no end. After watching for
a couple of minutes, I pulled out of the Aldi's lot as the mockingbird left
the kestrel to be and flew down to a small tree about 25 feet behind the pole.
This is the first sparrow hawk I've seen in quite a while in the
neighborhood. Both birds may be in the process of establishing territory as
both species
nested in the area last year.

By the way, I get the apples, oranges and bananas for my birds at Aldi's as
they are usually quite a bit cheaper there than at any other place. Since my
birds are such vociferous fruit eaters, I need to get the fruit at this least
expensive place, especially since I do not have to use extra gas to get to it.
It's on my direct route home from the Post Office & other places to which I
normally go to do errands.

Cheers, prayers & happy birding,

Dee Thompson
Nashville, TN
