[TN-Bird] Sparrow hawk; sapsucker; cardinals, etc.

Greetings from the Charlotte Park area of West Nashville just a few blocks
east of the Cumberland River's old Cleece's Ferry landing in Davidson County.
A gorgeous male sparrow hawk appeared on the wire above my bird feeding area
at around 10 AM today. He set off a bunch of songbirds who started screaming
warnings for all to hear. I actually stood "guard" in the rain beside the
bird feeder to let my mockingbirds eat their fill of peanut butter before they
went to hide. I haven't seen the hawk for about a half hour now, so my seven
cardinal couples are feeding and courting all over the place. I don't know if
this is the same sparrow hawk that I saw at Aldi's, a little over a half mile
away by air, but it MIGHT be.

My sapsucker that had so diligently dug holes in my holly tree has not been
seen in a couple of weeks, so it must have moved on. Other birds seem to have
given up on his sap holes as well, as the tree is vacant every time I look.

A jumble of juncos are still hanging around alone with a pair of white
throated sparrows. That male is really into breeding plumage and is handsomer
every
day.

Cheers & prayers,

Dee Thompson
Nashville, TN
