[TN-Bird] Southwest Shelby Co.

Coro Lake Area

They are trucking in loads of winter wheat to President's Island's grain
facilities and the Morning and Eurasian Collared-Doves are reaping the
harvest of spills on the roads. In the 1500 block of Channel, I flushed 2
White-winged Doves, my second for Shelby County but long over due for
President's
Island. The two birds did not return while I was there. Three Western
Kingbirds were seen in the industrial area east of the island.

At the "Pits", finally White-rumped Sandpipers, I counted a dozen in one
group. Other Wind Birds present: Killdeer, Black-necked Stilts, Lesser
Yellowlegs, a single Solitary, Spotted, Least, and Semipalmated Sandpipers. I
watched a pair of Shoveler Ducks mating, last week one male had chased the
second male away. Maybe we will see babies soon. I've seen one other brood of
baby Shovelers at Reelfoot years ago. At least two pair of Blue-winged Teal
are acting in the family way. The 4m and single female Lesser Scaup are
still using TVA Lake.

Robert Gooch found a pair of Black-bellied Whistling Ducks in a small marsh
area off of Shelby Drive north of Coro Lake. This area produces some
interesting birds from time to time including over the years ibis and a
Tri-colored Heron. This is a perfect place for these birds to nest and they
appeared to be quite at home along with many Green Herons and Mallard families
herding young.
I was able to get a scope shots of Black-bellieds feeding.
