[TN-Bird] Song sparrow returns/ Cooper's Thanksgiving, et al

Hello Birders,

About two hours ago here in the Charlotte Park section of West Nashville,
Davidson County, a few blocks from the Cumberland River across from Bell's
Bend,
I saw my first song sparrow of the season feeding hungrily on my deck.
This one is a very light bird, but with heavy dark striping and a good "stick
pin" on its chest.

My lovely "Immy Coop" (immature Cooper's hawk) started its Thanksgiving with
a bang. While I was preparing my oyster, sausage, pecan stuffing for MY
holiday bird, "Immy" swooped across my deck and took down a mourning dove
which
it killed on the spot. It then flew off into a far backyard tree to devour
its prize. Looks as if "Immy's" hunting skills are improving. By necessity?
Maybe Mommy & Daddy have put "Immy" on its own and stopped "running
interference" when it misses.

Up to 60 mourning doves are feeding here from time to time, with nine being
out there right now. Juncos are everywhere, and the mockingbirds, titmice,
chickadees and wrens are keeping me busy putting out peanut butter. The
"bossy" mocks sure let me know when the supply is gone. They come to the
window
of whatever room I am in and just stare in at me until I leave the room, then
they fly around and wait for me to get the PB up onto the grape vine just
outside of the French doors. They are "on it" before I can even get the door
closed! They are almost as tame as my Florida jays were when I had those in
my
Indialantic (FL) back yard before I moved to TN in 1979. At least one of
the mocks will take PB from my hand when I offer it. I do not encourage it
very often as I don't want it trusting ALL people!

Hope you all had a fine Thanksgiving. I'm still recovering from overeating!!
