Spring Hill, TN (Maury County)

Went to Spring Hill today in search of the Snowy Owl. Arrived around
noon, and several other parties were already there. The bird had
reportedly been seen flying over the ridge at about 8:30 am. We did
not see the bird, nor had any other birders seen it when we left at
dusk. However, a GM guard stopped by around 4 p.m. and indicated he
had seen the owl in a low area beyond the red barn (not visible from
the publicly accessible areas), and there were a cars in the GM plant
area that slowed down and appeared to be looking at something (or
perhaps FOR something, who knows?) that we couldn't see from where we
were.

We were situated on Hwy 31, immediately south of Saturn Parkway, at the
pull-off on the west side of the highway (along the white wooden fence)
before you get to the Saturn Visitor's Center.

Although we didn't find what we came for, there was plenty of good
company! There were folks from as far away as Columbus, GA, and
Atlanta, as well as Knoxville, Chattanooga, Nashville, Murfeesboro,
Clarksville, and Huntsville, AL (sorry if I left anyone out!). Lots of
local interest, too. Some had heard or read about the bird on the
news, and others just wanted to know what all the commotion was about.
I hope some of them will be able to stop by again when the owl is being
more cooperative!

Better luck next time, I suppose!
