The Snowy Owl in Spring Hill (Maury Co) was still present but very
distant at midday today (1/24/09), on the west side of Highway 31,
across from Rippavilla, south of 396/Saturn Parkway, and south of the
red barn and gated entrance/pullout mentioned earlier. It was only
visible from about a 25' section of the Saturn fence, at its highest
point above the roadway atop a somewhat treacherous and crumbly
slope. The bird was hundreds of meters distant, right on the skyline
at the crest of the farthest rise, visible to the naked eye as a
bright white dot, through binoculars as a slightly larger white dot,
and through a scope as a rippling fluffy blob that occasionally
turned its two pinprick eyes towards you.
Re: the multiple reports of their originally having been two owls:
These might not be independent data, they might all be repeating the
same primary rumor.
