While enjoying photographing wildflowers this a.m. in the Middle Prong area of
the Smokies (near Townsend side- along the road to Tremont Institute) I
enjoyed listening to my first Spring Black and White Warbler as well as my
first "sweet, sweet, sweet, I'm so sweet" downslur of a Yellow- throated
Warbler. Most of the time was spent near the creek, so did not hear or see much
else except a couple Louisiana Waterthrush that were obviously doing battle
for territory.
With this early heat, the wildflowers are coming and going so fast it's hard to
tell what month it is with the variety of species blooming in many of the lower
elevations. Early spring stuff side by side with mid- to late April and even
some species not expected until May.
