Location: Riverport Rd Ponds / Swamp Observation date: 9/7/06 Notes: Birded onthe way into the pits and then on the way out 650pm-705pm. Turkeys seen in two places, Southern shoreline of the second pond from the bridge(6), and 3 on the levee behind the trees that lead to the Maint facility on the right side going to the pits. Number of species: 6 Wood Duck 3 Mallard 1 Wild Turkey 9 Great Blue Heron 2 Great Egret 16 Turkey Vulture 2 Location: TVA PONDS Observation date: 9/7/06 Notes: Big pond had the ducks, geese and cormarants and a few of the longlegs resting on the mud flat at the rear of the pond. Rest of the long legs were on the smallpond with the boomfloat. Number of species: 10 Canada Goose 32 Mallard 15 Double-crested Cormorant 15 Great Blue Heron 2 Great Egret 17 Mourning Dove 6 Eastern Bluebird 2 Northern Mockingbird 1 European Starling 6 Common Grackle 9 Location: TE Maxwell Lagoons Observation date: 9/7/06 Notes: Lots of birds on the pits, at least the big pond in the back, estimate close to 2000 birds over all the ponds with the most on the big pond. Many were resting (75%), Back corner relatively empty today. Two Im. Red Tails were perched together in the bare tree for along time. Eyeing the shorebirds, Three other Im Redtails seen in the small trees near the drying fields. and one Adult RT seen in the big oak on exit of the pits on Plant rd. No camera and the Bairds and Buff Breasted were right next to the levee 20ft away. Great View for ID though.
