[TN-Bird] Sightings Report 31 Oct Ensley Bottoms area Memphis

Sightings Report 31 Oct Ensley Bottoms area Memphis, Shelby County, TN
Location: Riverport Rd Ponds / Swamp
Observation date: 10/31/06
Notes: Grackles and Starlings beginning the fall roost. Ponds are
really low, atleast 4-5 ft low. Some of the more shallow ones have only a
trickle of water.
Number of species: 11
Canada Goose 10
Gadwall 16
Pied-billed Grebe 5
Great Blue Heron 2
Killdeer 9
Greater Yellowlegs 6
Least Sandpiper 5
Mourning Dove 3
Northern Flicker 1
European Starling 300
Common Grackle 300
Location: TVA PONDS
Observation date: 10/31/06
Notes: Huge flock roosting in the tall reeds along the ponds and levee,
turned the sky black when they lifted when startled by a RT hwk.

Red-winged Blackbird 500
Location: TE Maxwell Lagoons
Observation date: 10/31/06
Notes: 150 Least Sandpipers in the back corner of Pond 3. Frantically
feeding. Temperature dropping as I came into the pits and onto the levee's
short period of light rain. Middle of Pond 4 (the Big Pond) were about 500
Least SP, again all actively feeding. Something spooked them into a lift off
they swirled twice a a small flock of about 100 took offdue south and didn't
look back. The rest went about scurrying in the shallow waters. 3 Lesser Yel
Legs in the back corner. Killdeer still around throughout the area. Rain
coming in fast and the wind is picking up.
