Sightings Report 29 Dec 06 Ensley Bottoms Area, Memphis, Shelby County TN
Location:     TN 2 Mem, Riverport Rd Ponds / Swamp

Observation date:     12/29/06, 1145-1230pm

Notes:     Water levels are finally coming up in the ponds and sloughs. The
smallest slough next to thecreek bridge is even showing signs of holding
water. this weekends rain will mean alot. With more water around the ducks
are all over now instead of being packed together in good view.

Location:     TN 2 Mem,TVA PONDS

Observation date:     12/29/06, 1230-115pm

Notes:     Huge tightly packed float of birds. Coots and H.Mergansers spread
out. Float was easily 2000 birds and is a conservative count. Cormorants
lined up in the back of the pond with gulls and some ducks. Had time today
and had use of a borrowed scope and studied the Scaup in detail (those not
sleeping). Grtr Scaup:  Lgr birds more rounded head. Beaks on the lgr birds
were much larger/thicker than the smaller lsr's. Very evident when floating
side by side. Number of greater could be larger but best birds studied were
close at hand.
