Location: TN 1 Cvll, Peterson Lake Nature Center
Observation date: 9/26/07, 8-11 Am
Notes: Memphis Chapter of TOS Weds hike. 8 individuals participated: Jay
Walko (Hike leader), Gerry Papachristou , Kate Gooch, Judy Dorsey, Caroline
Bullock, Kathy Holder, Lillian Duran and Barbara Wilson. Birds of the day
were the Ph Vireo's who were in real close range for excellent ID by all as
they foraged in the nearby low trees. Seems every other bird also was an
American Redstart. At one time we had 7 in view at once. Further into the
bottoms we had good looks at several males showing off there colors. Rain
storm ended around 530am, we had cloud cover entire time with no actual sun
until almost the end of the hike. Lots of birds. Some went un-identified due
to only seeing the outline against the poor light. Several species missed
this morning but expected were GB Heron, RT Hawk, C Geese, M Doves, Mocking
birds, Bluebirds, Br Thrasher, Chimney Swifts, Killdeer and resident Barred
Owls each which had been seen at this site the past several days. An
excellent hike none the less with enough birds keeping all busy for the
three hours.
