Sightings Report 23 Oct 2006, Shelby Farms Area, Memphis, Shelby Cty, Tn
 

The fire at the County Mulching facility was the big news for today. Plumes
of smoke for miles. But some birds were seen in the 4 areas visited.

 

Location:     Shelby Farms Patriot Lake

Observation date:     10/23/06, 1145am-1205pm

Notes:      Sunny clear day at the Lake. Water level way down. Waterfowl
starting to show up.

Number of species:     9

 

Canada Goose     21

Gadwall     7

Mallard     12

Lesser Scaup     14

Great Blue Heron     2

American Coot     31

Killdeer     1

American Robin     7

European Starling     9

 

Location:     Shelby Farms Pine Lake Day use area

Observation date:     10/23/06, 1205-1220pm

Notes:      Water level way down alot of fishermen around.

Number of species:     3

Location:     Shelby Farms Picnic Shltr 4/Lake

Observation date:     10/25/06,1225-1250pm

Notes:      Beaver lake is at low levels also. Lots of geese though.NW
corner of lake is showing alot of LBJ's. very little water, but the hedges
have alot fling in them. Longer lunch needed to check more closely.
Highlight of day was the Osprey circling over the lake.

Observation date:     10/23/06, 1pm-115pm

Notes:      Checked out the front end of Meander lake, Not much happening.
Lake is real low.

Number of species:     4

Red-tailed Hawk     1
