[TN-Bird] Sightings Report, 20 July Ensley Bottoms, Memphis, Shelby Cty

Spent 1130am - 530pm in the Ensley Bottoms area. Clear & 98 deg
Location: TN 2 Mem, Maxson Wastewater Lagoons(The Pits)/Earth Complex
Observation date: 7/20/08
Notes: Fall migration has started earlier this week (As reported by
others) with lg influxes of birds. The pits are drawing them in. Birds are
scattered over all the available water areas. Pit five holding alot of birds
early until a raptor flew over and scattered all. A lot of movement
throughout the day. Mixed bag of shorebirds all around. Black-necked Stilts
are located all over with chicks of all sizes.(new borns to flyers)
Black-bellied Whistling duck(male) seen today in the pond west of the main
levee with all the Willow Trees. All the ducks seem to be in there during
the heat of the day. Shade does wonders. Female and chicks (reported by Jeff
Wilson Yesterday) not seen.
SOME SHOREBIRDS COUNTS ARE PROBABLY LOW DUE TO BIRDS GETTING KICKED UP BY
THE RAPTORS.

Observation date: 7/20/08
Notes: Short drive up to the ponds and down to the corner to see if any
Buntings were around.

Notes: Not much down by the sloughs yet . Good amount of water this
year.
