16 Sept 2006 Ensley Bottoms area Memphis, Shelby County, Tn
Location: TE Maxwell Lagoons

Observation date: 9/16/06, 1:25-3:15pm

Notes: Where did all the birds go? Upon entering the Pits medium size
flocks of mixed birds were flying out to the north towards the River. By
time I got to the big Ponds there were barely any birds around. Pond 2 had a
small contingent of Semi and Least Sandpipers with a few Pects. Pond 3 the
first big pond held a mixed bag of birds but not many, The big pond was the
biggest suprise if it weren't for the killdeer you could count the birds on
your fingers. By time I circled all the ponds a second time a few birds had
come back to Pond 3. I've never seen this so few birds here. The two
Solitary's were more or less on there own one on the big pond sharing a
feeding area with two least and the other on one of the back smaller ponds
which had a couple of Killdeer spread out. Hopefully the night will bring
more birds in. So great a swing in numbers from earlier this week
(thousands to a couple hundred).
