Location: TN 2 Mem, Maxson Wastewater Lagoons(The Pits)/Earth Complex
Observation date: 5/16/08
Notes: Was able to make it all the way around on all levees today in the
van. Solid ground underneath.Spring migration still strong at Ensley
Bottoms. Shorebirds scattered over three main areas today. Pit #5 had the
least amount of birds on the open areas with L Yel Legs and Blk-necked
Stilts congregating in feeding areas. The pond that holds alot of dead weeds
and scrub held the most birds today as birds were coming and going in the
scruub.

Birds of the day were the 6 Black-bellied plovers resting in this pond as
well as the Black tern that alternated rest and feeding flights. Dowitchers
were heavy in the far western pond/wet area recently dug this year. From
high on the levee good scope looks were givin. Several Coots have been
taking up space down here since late April and seem content on staying
around. Cold front yesterday brought cooler temps however the brunt of the
storms went south of us. Missing in todays counts are the Wilsons Phalaropes
that had been here this past week or so, hopefully they still around but in
an area I could not get through to see. Solitaries and Pectoral SP are
practically no where to be found after good counts past two weeks. Most
likely alot more birds just not seen in tall grass and scrub.
