I arrived at the pond 0.9 mile east of US Route 127 on Nine Mile Crossroad in
northern Sequatchie Valley at 5:45 PM Eastern. De Lorme p 41 C 5. Already at
this location was Kenny Benge from Franklin TN. He had seen several N.
Harriers. At 6:00 PM Eastern the first Short-eared Owl appeared from the grass
behind the pond, and flew to the large tree Northwest of the pond. The first
owl was shortly joined by 2 other in the tree, with a forth harassing a N.
Harrier. The owls perched in the tree afforded great scope views for a Life
Look for Kenny. A local lady stopped to ask what we were looking at, and
checked out our scope view of the owls and harriers. In total 4 Short-eared
Owls and at least 5 N. Harriers. By 6:20 the show was over. Clyde Blum
