June 5-6, 2010 North and South Treatment Plants Memphis, TN At Ensley, the number of nesting Black-necked Stilts have doubled in just one week plus one set of young found. White-rumped Sandpipers numbered 12 on Saturday and 19 Sunday with 8 Semipalmated Sandpipers both days. This last group may be youngsters that have given up on migration to the breeding grounds. Two Spotted Sandpipers may indicate breeders again. At the North Plant, young Black-necked Stilts were everywhere, 2 Semipalmated Plovers are late, (there were 4 there the first of the week), 22 White-rumped and an amazing 42 Semipalmated Sandpipers were counted Sunday. It has been over two weeks since any numbers of Least have been seen around here (I did have a single up north and a pair one day at the "Pits") but I expect the first Least Sandpiper returns in exactly 2 weeks;o) Good Birding !!!
