[TN-Bird] Shelby Park 9/29

A visit to Shelby Park in Nashville yesterday morning produced a few
interesting sightings. On Mission Hill, there were numerous RB Grosbeaks
squeaking
from every bush and tree. There were also large numbers of Brown Thrashers
around, I have never seen them in such a concentration. A juvenile Red-headed
Woodpecker with a dark head must have been moving through in passage. Few
warblers were noted: one Nashville was mixed with the Magnolias and Redstarts.
One Blue-headed Vireo was seen and 4 different Cooper's Hawks were in the
area. Along the Greenway beside the river, nice views of a Yellow-bellied
Flycatcher were had. During a slog through the weedy field behind the
observation tower, 2 birds were flushed tha looked suspicious for both a Sedge
and
Marsh Wren, but neither observation was confirmed. It was heartening to see
finally some bush-hogging going on in the adjacent fields; hopefully this will
continue and should improve some of the habitat lost to secondary growth. The
shorebird pond is completely overgrown and not a single bird of any
consequence was seen there.
