Hey Graham,I had a similar experience today in my own neighborhood! The last
few days at sunset have been so nice. I've had all woodpecker species ( except
Red headeds) unusually active in my yard and surrounding properties. But at
sunset tonight, I had all, including Red headeds, on the hill top over our home
for the first time in a few years. This all happened in the 20 minutes before
sunset! A Thanksgiving gift for us bird nerds.Susan BradfieldNorth Williamson

[TN-Bird] Seven Woodpecker species - Davidson County This afternoon while
walking my dogs in my west Nashville neighborhood, I finally got all 7 species
of Tennessee woodpeckers in a single checklist, in a 30 minute walk. All of the
woodpeckers occur regularly in my neighborhood except for Red-headed, which is
difficult in Davidson County, but 2 adult Red-headed have been active and vocal
for more than a week now. Since they've been hanging out, I've been trying to
get all 7 in one go, but I'm always falling short. This evening, as my dogs
were asking to go out, a Hairy Woodpecker was at my suet feeder. With that bird
checked off, I figured I had a very good chance. On leaving the house, a
Northern Flicker was heard calling almost immediately - they are constant in
the neighborhood. Downy and Red-bellied was also quickly checked off. As I
walked the dogs, I kept an ear and eye out for others. At the spot where the
Red-headeds have been, there was only a Red-bellied, but just past there, a
Pileated came roaring through at full volume. I still thought I might get them,
and sure enough on my way back, I heard and saw one Red-headed loudly rattling
and working its way up the dead tree it has been feeding off of for days. And
almost simultaneously, two Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers came in, chasing one
another and crying. Woo hoo! I've gotten all 7 in a day a few times. I think
this may be the first single checklist I've ever had with them all, and
definitely the first in my neighborhood, and the first time to have them all in
under 30 minutes. Pretty nerdy, but exciting nevertheless! Graham
