Hi Folks,
Today several of us spent the morning getting things ready for the
upcoming bird banding season at Seven Islands. We were not birding
much, but did note a lot as we did our thing. About noon Tracey and
Allan arrived and the 3 of us walked around for a while (just long
enough to get one of our dogs sprayed by a skunk and the other a cut
foot! ugh)
There are MANY Common Yellowthroat, Field Sparrow and Indigo Bunting
all around. Jim Giocomo showed me a few Field Sparrow nests.
The big highlight of the day was an AMERICAN WOODCOCK nest with one
chick. We flushed mom and dad, and one of them did a broken-wing
display, which I've never seen the species do before. We took a
couple pictures, which I've not yet downloaded.
We found a lone singing male PROTHONOTARY WARBLER. It was funny,
because I'd been listening all day, but didn't hear this guy until
ten past one in the afternoon.
We saw a total of 3 COOPER'S HAWKS and 1, possibly 2 AMERICAN
KESTRELs.
Charlie
