[TN-Bird] Selasphorus - Knox / fire outages

After the DC Cormorants a couple of weeks ago, David Trently asked
what I thought would be my next yardbird. I gave a list starting
with House Sparrow and at the end said I was still hoping for a
Rufous Hummingbird and Evening Grosbeaks this winter. Well I got
one of those this morning... or maybe one better.

At 7:30, Wed, 22 Nov 2006, while trying to live-trap an injured
stray cat, I said to Amber, "There's a hummer at the feeder!"
It's an immature male, probably Rufous but the one view of the
back I've had so far, I didn't see any rufous coming in yet so
we'll go with Selasphorus sp. for now.

He was coming back every 20 min. I've seen him 3 times now
and got some passable front-side photos taken through double-plane
glass at an angle so a bit blurry. I'll try to post those later
along with directions and viewing options.

I say try because if you live in Knoxville you have probably heard
about the fire in Dougherty Engineering Building last Friday. Well
that was my home-away-from-home for many years and is where the
server is that my friend Charles and I still use for email, websites,
and some of our work. The computer survived the fire just fine
but the network in the building is still intermittent. If you
have or have had trouble getting email to me lately, that's why.

Anyway, yard bird #147. Eat your heart out Jim and Betty Reid
Campbell. :-)
