There seems to have been a significant change this weekend. The white
throated sparrows have been absent for three days, the juncos down to a single.
The
goldfinch are moulting and few visible, and the chickadees are scarce too. The
chipping sparrows, having visited in small numbers the last few weeks, have
taken over the feeders with gusto. The bluebird couple are guarding their box,
circling vantage points regularly. Everyone else it seems is paired, apart from
our bold thrasherr who continues to be conspicuous on the ground, on feeders
and at the suet.No summer birds have been seen or heard yet, but observations
have been a bit limited due to the heavy colds we are nursing. Off to Oklahoma
via Missouri for prairie chickens and more on Wednesday. Ralph and Kay
Brinkhurst Lebanon Wilson Co.
