[TN-Bird] Scoters/Sanderlings Plus at Ensley

A late afternoon trip to TVA Lake and Ensley proved to be just the thing for
these dreary days. At TVA Lake the scaup flock keeps building with groups of
birds coming and going from McKellar Lake the whole time I was there. I counted
30+ Greater Scaup and had a sleeping immature SURF SCOTER with an immature
BLACK SCOTER flying in with a Red-breasted Merganser just at dark. (Still need
a
White-winged) A few Mallards were present with some coots and a single
Pied-billed Grebe. There were 3 Great Egrets and the injured Snowy with about
25
Ring-billed Gulls on the back side of the lake. Large numbers of gulls were
going
to roost to the south.

At the PITS, I was startled by a group of distant white shorebirds which the
scope turned into 14 SANDERLINGS. Also present were a couple of thousand Least
Sandpipers, a big number of Killdeer along with 5 Dunlin, 2 Western, a Lesser
Yellowlegs with a bad leg and a Pectoral Sandpiper. It was too muddy to get
back to all the areas to see any other Wind Birds but there seemed to be a huge
number of Shoveler Ducks as there were continually in the air trading from
pit to pit.

Good Birding!!!
