[TN-Bird] "Scalped" chickadee "hanging in there."

Hello Birders,
My little "scalped" chickadee is still feeding away here at my home in the
Charlotte Park area of West Nashville near the Cumberland River in Davidson
County. Although the bird is showing a lot of damage from what seems to have
been
a "hit" by a predator, it is active, spry and feeding. All the feathers were
"slashed" from the crown of its head, and, now that the blood has washed from
around its eyes and the top of its beak, it appears that its featherless and
skinless bald skull is showing across the top of its crown from the top of its
beak to just above where the neck begins. It came to feed on the deck
earlier, and was just a few feet from me where I could view it from "above"
while
sitting here just inside the French doors. I am pretty sure that it is only
bone that I am seeing there. I sure wish there was something I could do for
the
little thing, but it does seem to be recovering under its own steam. It's
been over 48 hours since I first saw it, and it really doesn't seem any worse
for
wear after its injury. In fact, I believe that is it perched in a tree right
behind the deck......SINGING! Maybe raging hormones are healing this bird!
Ahhhh, the strength of love in the springtime!

Glorious birding to all,

Dee Thompson
Nashville, TN
