Howdy all, A belated note about my party's turf from the Savannah CBC on 12/29/08. We covered some of the bottoms areas just below the dam and state park campground (Hardin County). Apparently we had the best (only?) grassy sparrow habitat in the area. It's in the Shiloh Shores subdivision, a development that has been platted out with roads and power lines, but has only one house in it and hundreds of acres of unmowed grass (plus no posted signs). It is reached from the road labeled as "Nixon Loop" in Google Maps, west of "Hamburg Loop" off of Highway 128 in Pyburns. We had 6 LeConte's Sparrows in this area, along with over 300 Savannah Sparrows and one Short-eared Owl. Most of the LeConte's were in the vicinity of the pipeline crossing areas west of the entrance to the subdivision. Anyone interested in spending a day stomping these fields might turn up a variety of interesting things!
