[TN-Bird] Savannah Sparrows in Cumberland County

This morning and yesterday morning I checked on a small "colony" of Savannah
Sparrows at Shadow Mt. Estates in southern Cumberland County. I came up with
two pairs of Savannah Sparrows along with 3 other singing birds this
morning. The birds in the pairs sang only rarely. I estimated 12-13
Grasshopper Sparrows there also, along with about 20 meadowlarks. Other
birds of note were a bobwhite calling each morning, a foraging Horned Lark
yesterday, a pair of kestrels, and a Red-headed Woodpecker (rather common
this year in Cumberland County). This is part of the same large grassy area
where the Short-eared Owls were seen all winter. The entrance to Shadow
Mountain Estates is off Dunbar Road about 0.8 miles south of the
intersection with Hillendale Rd. There is only one unfinished house in the
development so far. In the meantime the sparrows are making use of the lot
markers for perches. The Savannah and Grasshopper Sparrows don't seem to
mind each other's presence, since I've seen them perched or feeding only a
few feet apart several times.
